STEM Workshops

Perfume-making is deeply rooted in chemistry and biology. At Orris Labs, students will learn about molecular interactions, the roles of natural and synthetic compounds, and the science of olfaction, how our brains perceive and process scents. Through a hands-on workshop, they’ll explore how oils are extracted and how chemical reactions influence fragrance composition. Students will practice ratio and proportion when blending ingredients, developing a greater appreciation for the practical application of math in everyday life. The creation of a balanced fragrance requires precise measurements and calculations.
Fragrance design is as much an art as it is a science. Students use their imagination to craft unique scent profiles, combining different notes to create their own signature perfumes. This aspect of the field trip encourages critical thinking and creative problem-solving.
Grade 4 - 6
Students will be met with an educational section that meets their level needs. A great introduction for young learners, looking to apply their love of STEM to a real world product.
Grade 9 - 12
Students will get a higher level of chemistry and biology in the sessions educational breakdown. Students will see a future career in STEM, or support their University selection.
Teachers
Teachers have an option to include the fragrance bar to a PA day, or come in-studio for a teachers workshop. Workshops feature a 30ml bottle or a 10ml bottle with our express perfume bar.
